The Children’s Cabinet opened the first "Family Resource Center" in Nevada in 1990. The 10,000 square foot Maud W. "Jill" Walker Family Resource Center is the heart of The Children’s Cabinet and serves as a focal point in the community for public and private services to children, youth, and families. It is here that we assess the needs of at-risk children and families on an individual basis and evaluate services and options best suited to those needs.
Many unique and innovative services are housed in this Center. These services operate within two departments of the agency: Family and Youth Issues (FYI) and Early Education and Care (EEC). In addition to services housed in the Family Resource Center, another key service of The Children’s Cabinet is to provide individual assistance, referrals, and coordination of services through a central information clearinghouse. Information and referrals to other programs or services in the community are provided for a wide range of family issues and are available by telephone or e-mail.
