Family Counseling

This counseling program is based on a short-term, strength-based model that assists families in improving their family communication and coping with difficulties as they arise.

The Children’s Cabinet no cost model allows families to get the help and support they need.  Case managers provide wraparound services to families, and implement multiple assessment and screening tools to assess the individual needs of each family and provide appropriate referrals. Families taking part in the no-cost counseling program may receive therapeutic family counseling services which includes trauma therapy.

All of the counselors are licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Marriage Family Therapist Interns, or Marriage Family Therapist Practicum Students. All family counseling sessions are free and available to families with children up to 24 years old.

The Children’s Cabinet recognizes the necessity of community collaboration in order to implement a successful response to the opioid crisis.  We have expanded our existing case management and family counseling program to include families with young children from birth to 24 years old, who are at risk of being affected by, or have already been affected or impacted by, the opioid crisis in Washoe County.
