Keira came to The Children’s Cabinet for help after experiencing domestic violence during her pregnancy with her third daughter. The abuse had a serious impact on her emotional health and made her feel unsafe at home.
While pregnant, Keira began receiving support through The Children’s Cabinet’s Domestic Violence Program, including therapy for herself and her two oldest daughters. She was determined to create a safe and loving environment for her children.
However, about five months after giving birth, the abuse continued. Keira was hurt again in her home, and this time she realized that staying in the same environment was preventing her from healing and putting her children at risk. She knew she needed to make a change.
With support from The Children’s Cabinet, Keira got help from staff who listened to her, guided her through the crisis, and connected her with resources. They worked with her to find a safer place to live, helped her fill out a rental application, and provided financial help to cover the cost of holding the apartment.
After a difficult transition, Keira received the news that her housing application was approved. This was a major step forward in her journey to safety. She felt relieved and thankful, and said she finally had hope for a peaceful home where her children could grow up free from violence.
Keira’s story shows how strong survivors can be and how the right support can help families move toward healing and a better future.
