Northern Nevada HOPES first learned about The Children’s Cabinet’s Employer Support Program while attending a Northern Nevada Human Resources Association Young Professionals meeting.
At the time, a top priority for the organization’s Benefits Specialist was to align workplace benefits more closely with employee needs. One of the first efforts explored was the feasibility of offering on-site child care due to a property opportunity. Although that proposal didn’t move forward, the process proved valuable—it revealed how important family support was to staff and highlighted just how invested the HOPES team was in creating a workplace that supports working parents in financially sustainable ways.
Before working with The Children’s Cabinet, HOPES already offered several family-friendly benefits, including:
-
Paid medical, dental, and vision
-
A generous PTO policy
-
Childcare assistance through Flexible Spending and Dependent Care Spending Accounts
-
Expanded family-type considerations for FMLA and bereavement leave
-
Flexibility with hours and accommodations whenever possible
-
Remote work options for applicable roles
After receiving support and guidance from the Employer Support Program, HOPES made even more meaningful changes:
-
Amended their nursing policy to better fit the space and workflow needs of their clinic
-
Implemented six weeks of Paid Parental Leave
These improvements made a lasting impact on their team:
“HOPES is committed to serving all members of our community, including the most marginalized, and part of that commitment is making sure our staff feels valued and supported so they can continue their important work. We’re proud to offer Paid Parental Leave so they don’t have to choose between their mission and their family.”
“I just have to share how much of a blessing this has been. I truly didn’t know what I was going to do, and HOPES has been instrumental in supporting me throughout my parenting journey—from leadership to benefits.”
Through its partnership with The Children’s Cabinet, Northern Nevada HOPES strengthened its culture of care—proving that supporting families begins with supporting the people who serve them.
