Building Healthy Habits: Nutrition and Obesity Prevention

This is an intermediate wellness training for early education professionals caring for infants through age 5. This training will cover suggested nutritional requirements, allergy planning and prevention, and obesity prevention.
Training Objectives:
•Learners will define the serving size and types of milk/dairy products for all age groups.
•Learners will address the MyPlate food groups by defining what they are, what types of food are in each, portion sizes by age group, and why they are important.
•Learners will read and understand the various parts of food labels.
•Learners will define sugary beverages and address the negative impact on children.
•Learners will define food safety and identify how to keep food safe.
•Learners will demonstrate ways to incorporate the GO-WHOA foods for children.
•Learners will create a plan for how to plan, prevent, and act on food allergies.
•Learners will define how obesity is measured in children and its limitations.
•Learners will identify the current statistics of obesity in children.
•Learners will identify contributing factors to obesity in children.
•Learners will define why obesity prevention is important.
•Learners will define the role of an educator in obesity prevention.
•Learners will identify the role that nutrition, family meals, family dynamics, physical activity, sleep, and screen time reduction play in the prevention of childhood obesity.
Each professional development session offered by The Children’s Cabinet utilizes a knowledge check to ensure that our participants understand our training objectives and our instructors are providing a comprehensive learning experience. You can expect to receive a three question quiz or test at the end of each training.
